Hawk spent the entire night in tears inside a small apartment, worried for himself and Caramelo. It had been a tough night for our furry friend.
But joy came with the morning. Hawk was still asleep when he heard faint meows in the distance. He jumped up in excitement—he knew that voice. It was Caramelo! But how could he reach his brother? The cries seemed so far away. Rescuing Caramelo felt like an impossible task.
Suddenly, the humans who had rescued Hawk woke up and hurried downstairs.
Could they have heard Caramelo’s cries too? And if so, would this couple be kind enough to search for him? Were they truly safe to trust? Hawk had no answers.
The woman decided to stay with Hawk while her husband left to look for the yellow cat, hoping they would find him this time.
She wanted to hold tiny Hawk to comfort him, but his fear turned him into a small yet fierce tiger. He wasn’t ready for affection just yet. So, she gently wrapped him in a towel, holding him firmly while whispering reassurances that they would find his brother. This may have been the first time Hawk had seen love in a human’s eyes. It seemed to calm him—if only a little. Understanding the minds of scared young cats in such moments is never easy.
Meanwhile, Caramelo was hiding in the bushes, afraid to approach anyone. But then, something changed when he heard familiar, friendly meows from across the way. Could it be? Could it be their mother? He stepped closer, curiosity battling his fear.
To his astonishment, the meows weren’t coming from a cat but from a human! He had never imagined that humans could imitate cat sounds so well.
Just as Caramelo considered fleeing, the human crouched down looking far less frightening now. Slowly, cautiously, Caramelo inched forward. The bushes loomed high above him, and the gaviões were still circling when he was finally caught—but fortunately, not by hawks.
Smiles filled the house as the little lion was carried inside by his new owner. The couple beamed with happiness, and Hawk could hardly believe his brother was beside him once more.
Yet, the relief of being rescued from immediate danger gave way to a new kind of fear. This place was unfamiliar, and they didn’t know what lay ahead. But after such a stressful day, the two brothers curled up against each other and fell fast asleep.
